Audience-participation screening of the cult film 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' with a shadow cast performance, rated 18+.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show returns to the Historic Duncan Auditorium at the Tampa Theatre on Saturday, October 24, from 11 PM to 1 AM. If you've never been, it's less of a movie screening and more of a ritual. The plot is the starting point: an engaged couple gets lost and ends up captured by a Transylvanian doctor in lingerie and his entourage, who turn out to be space aliens. But the story is secondary to the experience of being there and watching performers totally off the leash.
By now, the audience owns the movie. People sing along, dress in costume, recite the lines, and act alongside the film. If it's your first time, you're known as a 'virgin.' The screening itself runs about two hours, and the 'Beyond Any Measure' shadow cast performs for about half an hour before the show starts. Seating is open, so you don't need to pick a spot in advance.
There's a whole set of unwritten rules to the night. You're encouraged to bring your own props—toilet paper, cards, newspapers, toast—to throw at the right moments. Just keep a few things at home: hot dogs, rice, and water guns aren't allowed. The show is limited to ages 18 and over.
