Live jazz performance recreating 1920s New Orleans in a street-style bar at Hotel Flor, with New Orleans jazz classics.
The Jazz Room: A Journey to the Heart of New Orleans comes to Hotel Flor on Saturday, November 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. It's a live jazz performance by world-class musicians and powerhouse vocalists, and the set is built around New Orleans jazz classics: St. James Infirmary, When the Saints Go Marching In, On the Sunny Side of the Street, Basin Street Blues, and Hello Dolly.
The show is staged in a street-style bar with low lighting and immersive sound, designed to recreate the 1920s New Orleans scene where the genre first took hold. The music itself is described as "hot jazz" — a mix of ragtime, brass, and blues — played with the kind of spontaneous improvisation that defines the style. It's open to guests 21 and over.
The venue is part of the draw. Hotel Flor is a 20-story Art Deco landmark in downtown Tampa that opened in 1926 as Florida's first skyscraper and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It recently underwent a $25 million renovation and reopened as a Tapestry Collection by Hilton, home to The Dan restaurant and its Roaring Twenties speakeasy vibe. The hotel's own history as a 1920s building fits the era the show is recreating.
