Weekly Monday morning choir class for over-55s led by Brent Douglas, with a final concert on 22 November.
Studio 55: Daytime Choir is running at the Tampa Museum of Art through the fall, with rehearsals every Monday morning from Oct 5 to Nov 16. It's part of the museum's Studio 55 program, which brings music into the galleries rather than keeping it on a stage. The choir rehearses in a beginner-to-intermediate format, and it's open to anyone over 55. If you've always wanted to sing in a group but weren't sure where to start, this is a low-pressure way to get into it.
Leading the group is Brent Douglas, a conductor and musician with a deep reach across the region's choral scene. He's the founder and artistic director of Venice Opera, director of orchestra and chorus at Eckerd College, and chorus master for Gulfshore Opera. He first connected with the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay as a keyboardist and rehearsal pianist with The Florida Orchestra, so he knows the local music community from the inside. Having someone with that kind of background running a beginner-friendly choir means you're getting professional direction without needing to be a pro yourself.
The whole thing builds toward a final concert on Sunday, Nov 22, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. That performance draws on the work the choir does during the term and mixes it in with a wider repertoire, so you get to hear what you've been practicing alongside a few other pieces. It's a nice way to cap off the weeks of Monday morning singing with a proper show.

Practically, the rehearsals run Mondays from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, for a total of seven sessions. The venue is the Tampa Museum of Art, 120 W Gasparilla Plaza, and the program is free. If you're over 55 and looking for a reason to get out on a Monday morning, this is a good one.
