Award-winning immersive experience with music, art, and mindfulness, taking audiences on a meditative underwater journey using 360-degree projection and surround sound.
Sounds of the Ocean opens at MOSI's Holloway Digital Dome Theatre on Sunday, October 25, and it's not a one-night thing—it runs through the end of the year on select evenings: November 8, November 29, December 13, and December 27. Each of those dates has two showtimes, 6 PM and 7:15 PM, so you can pick the one that fits your schedule.
The experience is a collaboration between ocean artivist and composer Joshua Sam Miller and co-director and expressive arts therapist Elise Lein. They've paired the songs of whales and dolphins with original music, immersive visual art, and ocean imagery to guide you through a mindful underwater journey. Miller and Lein describe it as a piece that inspires inner calm and a deeper connection to the sea, and the whole thing is presented in 360° fulldome projection with 5.1 surround sound, so you're surrounded by the visuals and the audio rather than just watching them on a screen.
One detail that sets this apart: the imagery is 100% real marine species recorded in the ocean, not AI-generated. The work was produced by Embodied Sounds, Inc., a 1% For the Planet and EU4Ocean Platform Partner, and it evolved over five years touring the United States, Costa Rica, the Middle East, and Europe. It's played in 26 countries, appearing at major climate conferences like COP28 and the UN Ocean Conference, and at festivals like Burning Man.
