Screening of the horror film 'Shadow of the Vampire' (2000), with Willem Dafoe and Nicolas Cage, at the Tampa Theatre as part of its 2026 'A Nightmare on Franklin Street' series.
Tampa Theatre is bringing Shadow of the Vampire back to the Historic Duncan Auditorium on Thursday, October 22, as part of its 2026 'A Nightmare on Franklin Street' series presented by Bank of America. The film is a fictionalized retelling of the troubled production of the silent horror classic Nosferatu, with Willem Dafoe playing Max Schreck, the actor who played Count Orlok. It's a 90-minute movie, and the theatre first screened it during its original 2000 release, so this is a return to the screen for it.
Dafoe is the center of the thing, and he's joined by John Malkovich and Cary Elwes. The film was directed by E. Elias Merhige and produced by Nicolas Cage. If you're familiar with the original Nosferatu, you know the Count Orlok role—the long fingers, the stiff posture, the creeping through the shadows—and that's the character Dafoe is playing here, though the movie is about the making of the film rather than the story Nosferatu tells.
