Live show by Appalachian fiddler Philip Bowen at the New World Music Hall in Tampa, for ages 18 and up.
Philip Bowen plays the New World Music Hall on Thursday, December 3, at 7 PM. It's a solo date, part of a run of Florida shows he's playing throughout December, so this is one of a few stops he'll make across the state that month.
Bowen is an Appalachian fiddler, and that's the core of what you'll hear: high-energy fiddle and honest songs. He describes his live show as one that brings the whole room together, which gives you a sense of the night—it's not a sit-still, listen-in-silence kind of set. The fiddle takes the lead, and the songs carry the rest.
If you're not familiar with the Appalachian tradition, it's rooted in the music of the mountains—fast, melodic fiddle playing and storytelling that doesn't hide behind a lot of production. Bowen keeps that energy front and center, and since he's the only one on the bill, the whole evening is built around his playing. The New World Music Hall is located at the New World Brewery in Tampa, so you've got the brewery right there if you want a drink before the music starts.
