Live music session by Peter J's blending blues, rockabilly, surf rock and reggae at Big Bamboo Bayside.
Peter J's plays Big Bamboo Bayside on Friday, October 30, from 6 PM to 9 PM. It's a three-hour set, so there's plenty of room for the different styles he pulls from throughout the night.
If you're not familiar with the act, the draw here is the variety. He doesn't stick to one genre; instead, he works through blues, rock and roll, reggae, and country. The setlist moves between them, so you'll hear a bluesy number followed by something with a country lean, then a reggae track, and so on. It's the kind of show where you can't really pin down a single sound because it's designed to shift gears.
That range is how he describes his own work, too. He talks about bringing a blend of blues, rockabilly, surf rock, and reggae to the bars and restaurants around the Tampa area. The rockabilly and surf rock lean into the upbeat, retro side of things, while the reggae and blues keep it grounded. When you put them all together, it covers a lot of ground in a single evening.
