Exhibition of pastel portraits, landscapes, animals, boats and still lifes by the Pastel Society of Tampa Bay.
People, Places & Things II is on view at the Carrollwood Cultural Center through October 30, presented by the Pastel Society of Tampa Bay. It's a group exhibition that brings together portraits, landscapes, animals, boats, and still life—the favorite subjects of the artists involved. Every piece is two-dimensional and at least 70% pastel, so the whole show stays within that soft, chalky medium.
The gallery itself is a bit of an oddity. It sits at the heart of everything the center does, so when you're there taking a class, seeing a show, or renting a room, the gallery surrounds you rather than being tucked away in its own wing. It's a space you'll likely pass through even if you aren't there specifically for the art.
If you want more than a casual stroll, gallery curator Willow Wright offers private and small-group tours. The center also holds openings and artist receptions, which are usually free and open to the public, so you can often catch the people behind the work in person.
