Night of tribute shows with Ordinary Boys recreating The Smiths and Morrissey and New Dawn Fades paying homage to Joy Division and New Order.
Ordinary Boys are playing New World Tampa on Saturday, October 24, with New Dawn Fades opening the night. It's a double bill of tributes to two of the most influential sounds to come out of Manchester: The Smiths and Morrissey, followed by Joy Division and New Order.
Ordinary Boys have been at this since November 2010, when they formed in Miami as a tribute to The Smiths and Morrissey. They took their name from Morrissey's song "The Ordinary Boys" on the album Viva Hate, a nod to the simplicity of The Smiths' own name. After their first show at Churchill's Pub in Miami, they caught the attention of Smiths and Morrissey fans and have spent the years since playing across Florida and beyond, working on a note-for-note recreation of the sound of their Manchester heroes. You'll hear the songs that defined the band: "This Charming Man," "How Soon is Now?," "Suedehead," and "Bigmouth."
New Dawn Fades handles the other side of the city's legacy, paying tribute to Joy Division and New Order. Together, the two bands cover the arc of Manchester's post-punk and indie output, from the jangly, melodic lines of The Smiths to the starker, dance-floor-ready sounds of Joy Division and New Order.
