Monthly hip-hop night with DJ and host Jon Ditty spinning old school, new school and underground tracks, followed by an open mic for local hip-hop performers.
Off The Dome returns to New World Tampa on Tuesday, October 27, from 7 PM to 10 PM. It's a monthly hip-hop DJ night and open mic, and this one falls on the fourth Tuesday of the month, which is when the series usually runs. The whole night is fronted by Jon Ditty, a Best of the Bay-winning rapper who handles both the decks and the hosting.
For the first part of the evening, Ditty spins an eclectic mix of hip-hop that runs from old school to new school and into the underground. After that, he opens the mic to local performers. If you're one of them, you can bring your own tracks on a USB flash drive or rap over random beats he throws your way. There's room for freestyle and improv alongside original material, so it works whether you've got a finished song ready to go or you're more of a freestyle rapper. The night is billed as a showcase for the local hip-hop scene, and the open mic is where that comes in.
