Screening of Alfred Hitchcock's 'Notorious' (1946) at the Tampa Theatre, part of 'Big Picture: A Century of Stories', with a post-film talk.
Tampa Theatre is screening Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious (1946) on Wednesday, October 21, at 7 PM in the Historic Duncan Auditorium. It's part of Big Picture: A Century of Stories, a series of restorations of films that had their original runs at the theatre. Notorious opened there in November 1946, so this is a return to the same room where Tampa audiences first saw it.
The film stars Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant. Bergman plays Alicia Huberman, a patriotic American whose father was a convicted Nazi spy; Grant is Devlin, the government agent who recruits her to fly to Rio and insinuate herself into the household of a suspected collaborator. It's billed as Hitchcock's perfection of the romantic noir thriller, and his biographer called it his first real attempt to bring his talent to a serious love story. It's often cited as one of the fullest expressions of his visual style.
The screening is part of a larger celebration: the Tampa Theatre turns 100 in 2026. Big Picture is one piece of a year-long birthday celebration, which includes a book recounting the cinema's entire history. After the film, there's a talk sponsored by Hungry Bull Productions and the Restaino Family Foundation.
