Jobsite Theater's production of Stephen King's Misery, adapted by William Goldman, in the Jaeb Theater for Halloween.
Jobsite Theater is opening its 29th season with Misery, running from October 14 through November 8 at the Jaeb Theater inside the Straz Center. It's an adaptation of Stephen King's novel, with William Goldman's screenplay serving as the basis—the same one that became the 1990 movie.
If you know the story, you know the setup: romance novelist Paul Sheldon is rescued from a car crash by his "number one fan," nurse Annie Wilkes. She turns captor when she discovers he's killed off her favorite character and forces him to write a new novel. Summer Bohnenkamp takes on the role of Annie Wilkes. The production runs about 90 minutes.
This isn't Jobsite's first time with the story. They staged it four seasons ago in the 98-seat Shimberg Playhouse, where it played to a sold-out run. This version is an "upscaled" production, moving to the larger Jaeb Theater just in time for Halloween—a holiday tradition the company has kept since 1999. The larger stage gives the production more room to breathe than the original run.
