Maria Bamford - Skokie

Maria Bamford brings her show Skokie to the Straz Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, October 24, at 8 PM. It's a stand-up comedy set, and Bamford is the only name on the bill.

If you've followed her work, you know she doesn't really do a standard stand-up routine. Skokie is billed as a curated session of laughs and sharp wit from a seasoned performer, and that's a fair way to put it. She's known for a style that often blends character work with a very specific, observational kind of humor, and this show falls right into that wheelhouse. It's built for comedy fans and stand-up enthusiasts who prefer something a bit more considered than a string of one-liners.

Bamford has spent years carving out her own space in comedy, and Skokie continues that. The show is a solo performance, so the whole night is her on stage, and it's aimed at people who enjoy a comedian with a distinct voice and a sharp eye for the absurd. If you're into stand-up that takes its own time to land a point rather than rushing through a list of jokes, this is exactly the kind of thing you'd want to see.

The Straz Center is at 1010 N WC MacInnes Pl in Tampa, and the show starts at 8 PM on Saturday, October 24. It's a single-performer night, so you'll get the full hour with Bamford.
