Talk by hospital chaplain J.S. Park, with Rev. Beth Bostrom, weaving stories from his chaplaincy and upbringing to explore the circles of family.
J.S. Park brings We Are Made of Us to Oxford Exchange on Sunday, October 25, with Rev. Beth Bostrom. The performance runs from 3:30 PM to 5 PM, and it's presented by Oxford Commons Hospitality Company.
Park is a hospital chaplain at Tampa General Hospital, and his work has appeared on CNN, NPR, Today and Good Morning America. He's the son of Korean immigrants and a sixth-degree black belt, and he spent three years as a chaplain at one of the largest nonprofit charities for the unhoused on the East Coast. He's written several books, including The Voices We Carry and As Long As You Need.
We Are Made of Us weaves together stories from his chaplaincy and his upbringing with research and trauma-informed care. It looks at three concentric circles of family: family of origin, chosen family and family beyond. Joining him is Rev. Beth Bostrom, an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church who has worked in pediatric chaplaincy, campus ministry, disaster recovery and family shelters. She's the pastor of 1st United Methodist Church of Palmetto, FL, and is pursuing a Doctorate of Ministry in Spirituality and Story at Wesley Theological Seminary.
