Live show by Jerry's Middle Finger, a band of musicians inspired by Jerry Garcia, at Zodiac Live in Ybor City, ages 18+.
Jerry's Middle Finger play Zodiac Live on Saturday, October 24, from 7 PM to 11 PM. The show is presented by Deuterman Productions, and it's an 18+ night.
The band carries on Jerry Garcia's blend of soul, guitar, and eclectic American music, and they reach beyond the Jerry Garcia Band catalog. The setlist changes nightly, running from JGB classics to deep cuts from Garcia's side projects, so you'll get a different take on the material depending on when you catch them. The group formed in 2015 when Garrett Deloian, Rodney Newman, Son Vo, Jon Gold, Halina Janusz, and Lisa Malsberger came together over their shared love of the Grateful Dead.
There's a specific division of labor that keeps the sound grounded in that tradition. Deloian handles vocals and guitar, drawing on Garcia's balance of composition and improvisation. Gold's keyboard solos channel Melvin Seals, with touches of Keith Godchaux and Nicky Hopkins. Janusz and Malsberger, known as 'The Ladyfingers,' provide gospel-inspired vocal harmonies. Outside the band, the members bring in their own backgrounds: Deloian has toured with Grammy-winning blues artists; Newman has released indie-folk as a solo artist; Gold collaborated with Danny Elfman in Oingo Boingo; Janusz and Vo have played in Mother Jones; and Malsberger has been a lead vocal fixture in the Southern California jam-band scene.
