Hands-on art session for toddlers and their caregivers to explore colour, texture and movement through sensory activities inspired by the museum's exhibitions.
Growing Creatively is back at the Tampa Museum of Art on Wednesday, November 18, as part of the Early Learner Gallery & Art Experience. It's a session for toddlers and their caregivers to make art together, and if you've got a little one at home, it's a good way to spend a Wednesday morning.
The experience is for kids ages 2 to 5. They work with safe, tactile materials—paint, natural elements, and simple tools—and explore color, texture, and movement through hands-on sensory activities. The focus is on the process, the discovery, and the playful experimentation rather than a finished product, and the sessions are pitched at a beginner-intermediate level. It's more about the doing than the result.
What makes it a museum experience is where the inspiration comes from. Each class draws from a different artwork on view in the museum's exhibitions, so the art on the walls shapes what the children make. You're not just making things in a vacuum; the museum's collection is part of the session.
