Disney's first North American touring production of the Beauty and the Beast musical, a 30th-anniversary staging with the classic songs 'Be Our Guest' and 'Beauty and the Beast'.
Disney's Beauty and the Beast comes to Carol Morsani Hall at the Straz Center from May 4 to 16, 2027. It's the musical based on the 1991 animated film, and this particular run is billed as a new US 30th Anniversary production. It's also the first North American touring production the company has sent out in more than 25 years, and it brings back members of the original Tony-winning artistic team.
If you know the story, you know the songs. The score is by Alan Menken, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and it keeps the classics like "Be Our Guest" and "Beauty and the Beast." The show itself won the 1994 Tony for Best Original Score, and the 1994 film was the first animation ever nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. On Broadway, the musical ran for over a decade and became the eighth longest-running musical in Broadway history.
There's a full company on the road for this one. Kyra Belle Johnson plays Belle, with Fergie L. Philippe as the Beast and Stephen Mark Lukas as Gaston. Danny Gardner is Lumiere, Kathy Voytko is Mrs. Potts, and Javier Ignacio plays Cogsworth. Harry Francis is Le Fou, Kevin Ligon is Maurice, Holly Ann Butler is Madame, and Cameron Monroe Thomas is Babette. Beatrice Goddard Beggs and Levi Blaise Coleman share the role of Chip. It's a big cast, and the production is known for its costumes.
