Post-emo band Camping In Alaska returns to Tampa with a skatepark show, supported by Novely, Deep Bite and Pale Gold.
Camping In Alaska are back at the Skatepark of Tampa on Wednesday, October 21, their first Tampa date in a while. The Huntsville, Alabama, post-emo band is returning to the city with a full bill: Novely, Deep Bite, and Pale Gold are all on the lineup. The show is presented by Aestheticized Presents and is all ages.
If you're coming to them for the first time, there's a bit of history to catch up on. Frontmen Austin Davis and Jacob Stewart started writing together when they were 15, drawing on Jawbreaker, Modest Mouse, and Knapsack, and cut their teeth playing DIY shows around North Alabama with Ben Cape and Jacob Hill. Their 2013 debut, please be nice (stylized in lowercase), became a cult hit after the YouTube channel jommeez uploaded it. The album has since passed a million streams, and the song "c u in da ballpit" has held 1.9 million views. It also left behind the line "I just want to kickflip into the sunset and disappear," which Vice once asked whether it was an emo song title or a "text from your depressed friend at 2 a.m."
After BATHE in 2014 and WELCOME HOME SON in 2016, the band went on hiatus. They returned with the 2022 EP Lost & Found and the 2023 album Hollow Eyes, which draws on Jawbox and The Weakerthans and grapples with addiction and homelessness. Between the early records and the newer material, there's a fair amount of ground to cover.
