Annual Halloween series at the Tampa Theatre with Wes Craven's New Nightmare, classic horror screenings, ghost tours, stage shows and spooky storytelling.
Tampa Theatre is bringing back A Nightmare on Franklin Street, its annual Halloween series that runs from October 19 to 31. The whole thing takes its name from Wes Craven's original 1984 A Nightmare on Elm Street, and the program draws from the slasher and horror canon. It mixes classic horror screenings with guest stars, ghost tours, stage shows, and spooky storytelling, with plenty of family-friendly options in the mix.
One of the standouts this year is the Ghosts of Tampa Theatre Tour, a PG-13 walk that lasts about two hours. It's a tour of the palace's ghostly guests, preternatural patrons, and eternal employees. Along the way, you'll hear about the man in seat 308, where Robert Lanier tore his final ticket, and why Fink Finley continues to roam the balcony. The theatre bills itself as the area's most historic and most haunted movie palace, one of Tampa's iconic downtown landmarks, and it's still finishing its historic renovations.

On Friday, October 30, the series screens Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) in the Historic Duncan Auditorium. The film is part of the same franchise the series is named after, so it fits right in. Doors open at 9:30 PM, and the screening starts at 10:00 PM. Tickets are $13 for evening general admission and $10 for Tampa Theatre members, plus a $2 service fee for online purchases. The theatre is at 711 N Franklin St in downtown Tampa.
