Ticketed 1920s speakeasy soiree celebrating Ybor City's cigar-boom history, with a live band and proceeds supporting the Ybor City Museum Society.
The Ybor City Museum Society is bringing back its ¡VIVA! Speakeasy Soirée on Saturday, November 7, at the J.C. Newman Cigar Company. It's the fourth year they've put this one on, and it's styled as a 1920s speakeasy from the cigar-boom era, held inside Newman's historic El Reloj cigar factory. The whole night is a nod to the years when the cigar industry and the city's social scene were both peaking, and it's built around the local flavors that helped found Ybor City and made Tampa what it is today.
It's a ticketed event with a live band playing throughout the evening. The proceeds go to the Ybor City Museum Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and the Tampa Baseball Museum. Together they work to preserve, promote, and celebrate Ybor City's cultural heritage and Tampa's historic role in baseball. The Society's wider programming includes complimentary mobile museums, reading programs, and a children's book series, so the money from the night goes toward keeping those going.
