Afternoon book presentation by authors Kristin Hare, Alexia Gonzalez and JoAnn Hill about two Florida travel guides.
Oxford Exchange is bringing together three Florida travel writers on Sunday, October 25, for a conversation about the state's less-visited corners. The afternoon features Kristin Hare, author of 100 Things to Do in Florida Before You Die, alongside Alexia Gonzalez and JoAnn Hill, who co-authored Secret Florida: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure. Both books share a similar goal: pointing you toward the places most tourists walk right past.
Hare's 100 Things to Do in Florida Before You Die is a guide to the state's wider range of sights. It runs from Ernest Hemingway's home in Key West to a sinkhole you can snorkel in Williston, and from a bar on the Florida-Alabama border to a house in Bartow that's said to "breathe."
Secret Florida leans more into the odd and the obscure. Gonzalez and Hill dig into the state's stranger history and offbeat attractions, like a police station inside a phone booth, an underwater cemetery off Key Biscayne, haunted hotels, and Cold War secrets hidden in the Everglades. The two books together cover a lot of ground, from the coast to the interior.

The writers themselves bring a few different perspectives to the table. Alexia Gonzalez was born and raised in Miami to Cuban and Spanish parents; she's a bilingual Tampa Bay radio host and a first-time author. JoAnn Hill is a travel and food writer whose fourth book comes from her interest in taking readers beyond the typical tourist experience. Kristin Hare moved to the Tampa area from Missouri and has written three editions of 100 Things to Do in Tampa Bay Before You Die.
The talk runs from 1:30 PM to 3 PM at Oxford Exchange, 420 W. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa, FL 33606.
