Autumn in Tampa has a home this weekend, and it's a familiar one. The Heights District's 9th Annual Fall Fest returns to Armature Works, taking over the West Lawn and Market Street along the riverfront for two days of the kind of neighborhood tradition that's easy to build a whole weekend around. The festival runs on Saturday, October 24, from 12 PM to 5 PM, and on Sunday, October 25, from 12 PM to 4 PM, and entry is free for all ages, so you can drop in whenever it fits your plans.

The heart of the weekend is built for families. There's a Kids Zone with toddler bounce houses, slides, mazes and airbrush painting, which costs a $20 admission pass per child per day, while face painting and animal rides are separate ticket purchases. Beyond that, the festival leans into the season with a petting zoo, camel rides, and pony rides, and an interactive DJ to keep things moving. The Riverfront Pumpkin Patch is the one part that doesn't wait for the weekend: it's free to walk through all month, open Thursdays through Sundays, and stays open right up to Halloween, with the season closing on Sunday, November 1. Pumpkin painting is part of the mix, so it's the kind of spot where you can pick out a pumpkin and decorate it in one go.
A few practical notes make the day run smoother. Parking is available in all the lots and the Heights Parking Garage, $20 from 10 AM to 5 PM both days and $10 before 10 AM and after 5 PM. Leashed dogs are welcome at the outdoor event, so the whole household can come. And there's a simple way to do some good while you're there: the festival is collecting non-perishable canned goods for Metropolitan Ministries, and each donation earns you a raffle entry for a chance at a $100 Armature Works gift card.
It's worth knowing the place you're visiting, too. Armature Works is a landmark in the Heights District, built back in 1910, and it now holds more than 20,000 square feet across three event spaces. If you want to turn the festival into a full day or a group outing, the building has plenty of dining options to choose from, including M.Bird Rooftop, Stones Throw, Steelbach and Champagne Porch, so you can grab a meal before or after you've worked through the activities. Between the free entry, the kids' zone, the animal rides and the pumpkin patch, there's enough going on to fill a few hours without much planning at all. Whether you're coming for the kids, the animals or just a walk along the river, it's a low-pressure way to spend a fall weekend in the Heights.
