Meet-up for urban enthusiasts organized by the Landmarks Association of St. Louis, which preserves the city's architectural heritage.
The Landmarks Association of St. Louis is hosting another Urbanites Meet-Up on Monday, November 10, at 5 PM. If you've spent any time walking through downtown, you've probably noticed how the city's architectural history is written right into the street—the grand buildings of the late 19th and early 20th centuries are basically monuments to the ambitions St. Louis had back then. That's the kind of stuff the Association spends its time on.
They've been around since 1959, a public not-for-profit with a mission to preserve, enhance, and promote the city's architectural heritage. Over the decades, they've built up a wealth of material on St. Louis and its historic architecture, which they house in the Brambila Architectural Library. If you're into the details of how the city was built, that's a deep well to draw from.
Beyond the library, they run expert-led walking tours of the city center, so you can see the buildings they talk about in person. They also offer behind-the-scenes looks at the progress of the Steinberg Skating Rink and at the wider architectural legacy of downtown St. Louis. The meet-up is part of that same thread—a chance to get together and talk about the city's built environment with people who know it inside and out.
