Author event and book signing with Deesha Philyaw to celebrate her debut novel 'The True Confessions of First Lady Freeman'.
Deesha Philyaw comes to .ZACK on Tuesday, October 27, for an evening presented by Left Bank Books. She'll be in conversation with David Haynes, a St. Louis author and the Board Chair of Kimbilio for Black Fiction. The night centers on her debut novel, The True Confessions of First Lady Freeman, which came out this year.
Philyaw is a PEN/Faulkner Award winner and a Kimbilio Fiction Fellow, and before this novel, she was known for The Secret Lives of Church Ladies. Reviewers have called her one of the greatest short story writers and the most soulfully entertaining writer of her era, so if you've followed her shorter work, this is a good chance to hear her talk through the jump to a full-length novel.
It's not just a talk, either. The evening pairs the conversation with a book signing: copies will be on sale as soon as the doors open, and a signing line with personalization follows the discussion. If you want a signed copy, it pays to get your book early so you're ready when the line starts. The event is expected to draw around 150 people, so it'll be a full room without feeling like a stadium.
