The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories is showing at Showcase Cinema de Lux in Southampton, with the first session on Saturday 15 August. It's an animated collection of five of Eric Carle's best-loved stories, brought to the big screen in a colourful sequence. If you grew up with his books, you'll recognise the lead character from the title, and the other four stories follow on from there.
It's a morning slot, which makes it an easy one to fit in with the kids. The timings shift slightly depending on the day: Friday, Tuesday and Wednesday run at 09:50; Saturday through Monday are at 09:40; and Thursday is the earliest at 09:30. Since it's a cinema screening, you've got the choice of when to go rather than a single date to work around.

The cinema is in the West Quay Shopping Centre, on Level 4, so it's right in the heart of the city. Tickets are £8.90 to £11.40, with OAP and NUS seats at £7.95 to £8.95, under-15s at £7.45 to £7.95, and military tickets £7.50 with a valid ID. There's also a gallery option at £16.40 and a family ticket for £30, so it's worth checking which one works best for your group before you head in.
