Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey arrives at Harbour Lights Picturehouse on Sunday 2 August, his first big release since Oppenheimer took the Oscars in 2023. It's a reimagining of the world's oldest adventure, and Nolan's taking it to a cinematic scale that blends action with myth.
The story follows Odysseus, the battle-worn King of Ithaca, on his decade-long journey home after the Trojan War. He's fighting his way back to reunite with Queen Penelope and their son Telemachus, and the film tracks that ten-year struggle across the sea. It's shot across the globe with next-generation technology, and it's rated 15.
On screen, Matt Damon takes the lead as Odysseus, with Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron filling out the rest of the cast. It's a huge ensemble for a story that centres on one man's long way home, and the scale of it puts it in the same bracket as Nolan's other large-format work—Interstellar, Inception and Oppenheimer.
