An evening of Soul, Rhythm & Blues and Motown magic featuring Roy Hemmings, formerly of The Drifters, performing hits from legendary artists.
Roy Hemmings brings The Motown Experience to The Grand on Saturday 4 July, a night of soul, rhythm and blues. Hemmings, formerly of The Drifters, has been singing for over four decades, and this show, which he calls The Dictionary of Soul, is his take on the golden era of mid-’60s music.
The set pulls from the artists who defined that period. You'll hear Otis Redding, James Brown, The O-Jays, The Supremes, The Temptations and the Four Tops. Among the songs are Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay, Me & Mrs Jones, Under the Boardwalk and My Girl.
He's not on his own up there. He's joined by the Prim-ettes, who provide the backing harmonies and the Motown choreography that went with the records. DJ Paul Mico is also on the bill. The night supports Mountbatten Hampshire, the local charity that provides hospice and end-of-life care across the county.
