The Meteors, a veteran UK psychobilly band blending rockabilly, punk and horror imagery, live at The 1865.
The Meteors are playing The 1865 on Tuesday 29 September, their only Southampton date that night. They're a veteran UK psychobilly band, and the name should be enough if you've spent any time around the psychobilly scene: they've been at it for decades, long enough to be one of the most recognisable names in the genre.
If you're not familiar with what that actually means, the sound is a collision of rockabilly, punk, and horror imagery. It takes the slap-back echo and driving rhythm of fifties rock and rolls it through a punk filter, with a good deal of B-movie camp and graveyard aesthetics mixed in. It's music built for a dancefloor, and they've spent years touring that particular blend across the UK and beyond.
They're the sole bill for the night, so the whole set is theirs. It's a straightforward gig: the band on stage, the psychobilly sound they're known for, and nothing else to worry about. If you've followed them for a while, you know the drill; if you're coming to them for the first time, it's a good place to start.
