The Long Ryders

The Long Ryders bring their UK tour to Papillon on Sunday 18 October, the final date of the run. They're an alt-country band from Los Angeles, and the set will be a single-band bill.

They've been around since the 1980s, when they helped build the alt-country sound by mixing punk energy with country-rock harmonies. They're often described as bridging the gap between Gram Parsons and the Americana acts that followed, and their influence reached bands like Wilco, The Jayhawks and Uncle Tupelo. Two of their early records, Native Sons and State of Our Union, gave them their name and their radio hit 'Looking for Lewis & Clark'.

Their most recent work comes from September November, their first album since the passing of bassist Tom Stevens. It follows 2019's Psychedelic Country Soul, so the set should draw from both the new material and the older songs they've carried for decades. The show is presented by The Brook Live at Papillon, a 450-capacity live music venue, restaurant and bar in Southampton city centre. It's housed in a Grade II listed former church built in 1845, which still has its original wooden beams and stained-glass windows.

Doors open at 7:30 PM, with the show starting around 8:00 PM. Tickets are £30.25 for general admission. The night is for ages 18 and over, though under-14s are admitted when accompanied by an adult over 21.
