The Last Viking

The Last Viking opens at Harbour Lights Picturehouse on Monday 29 June, with screenings running through to Tuesday 7 July. It's a Nordic comedy-drama, a collaboration between Mads Mikkelsen and Anders Thomas Jensen, and it's playing at the two-screen cinema and bar in Ocean Village, SO14 3TL.

If you're a fan of Nordic cinema, this is exactly the kind of thing that fits. It's got that dry, understated humour the region is known for, and with Mikkelsen and Jensen working together, it's a proper piece of Danish filmmaking. It's a comedy-drama, so it balances the laugh with the more grounded side of things, and it's aimed at an adult, cinephile audience rather than the multiplex crowd.

There are plenty of sessions to choose from over the next couple of weeks, so you don't have to rush. It starts on Monday 29 June at 20:30, then Tuesday 30 June at 20:20, and Wednesday 1 July at 17:45. Thursday 2 July has two showings, one at 12:50 and another at 17:00, followed by Friday 3 July at 14:15. After a short break, it returns on Sunday 5 July at 20:30 and Tuesday 7 July at 17:15. If you're working during the week, the later slots on Monday, Tuesday, and Sunday are your best bet; if you're free in the afternoons, Thursday and Friday have you covered.

It's a paid screening, and you can book your tickets through the Picturehouse website. Harbour Lights is a two-screen cinema with a bar right by the harbour in Ocean Village, so it's an easy spot to get to if you're already down that end of Southampton. With sessions running from the late-night slot on the 29th right through to the afternoon of the 7th, there's plenty of room to fit it in.
