The Invite

The Invite is running at Harbour Lights Picturehouse in Ocean Village, Southampton, from 10th to 16th July. It's a comedy directed by Olivia Wilde, who also stars in it as Angela, alongside Seth Rogen as Joe, Penélope Cruz as Pina and Edward Norton as Hawk.

The film is an adaptation of the acclaimed Spanish comedy The People Upstairs. It follows a couple who invite their neighbours over for cocktails, and what starts as a simple get-together turns into an evening of uncomfortable truths as the couple's marriage reaches a breaking point. From there, the night takes a few unexpected turns, bringing out repressed emotions and unexplored sexuality. It's been described as a smart, grown-up comedy about modern relationships, desire and the secrets we keep, with some critics calling it the funniest movie of the year.

It runs for 107 minutes and carries a 15 certificate for very strong language, strong sex references and drug misuse, so it's definitely one for the adults rather than a family outing. If you're planning to go, it's worth keeping the date range in mind: it's on from 10th to 16th July, so you've got a week to fit it in.

Tickets are £9, with children £5.50, members £7, concessions £8, and family tickets at £25 and £27.50. If you catch a showing before 5pm, the prices drop a bit: £8 for adults, children £5.50, members £6, concessions £7, and family tickets at £23 and £25.50. There's also a Silver Screen price of £4.50.
