An autism-friendly screening of the 2026 science fiction horror film 'The End of Oak Street', directed by David Robert Mitchell and starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor.
The End of Oak Street is screening at Showcase Cinema de Lux in Southampton on Saturday 15 August. It's the latest from David Robert Mitchell, who wrote and directed the film, and it's a bit of a departure for him. He's known for the horror breakout It Follows (2014) and Under the Silver Lake (2018), and while this brings him back to the genre territory of the former, it's science fiction this time around.
Set in 1982, the story follows the Platts, a family living in a nondescript slice of American suburbia. That changes when a bizarre phenomenon whisks their entire neighbourhood back to the Cretaceous period, where the locals are large, carnivorous, and partial to human flesh. It's a 99-minute ride that draws heavily on classic Spielbergian adventures and 1980s action cinema, and it's produced by Joss Whedon, who also produced the Cloverfield franchise. The effects come from a team that includes cinematographer Mike Gioulakis and composer Michael Giacchino.
On screen, Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor play the parents, Denise and Greg Platt, with Maisy Stella and Christian Convery as their teenage children, Audrey and Brian. PJ Byrne and Jordan Alexa Davis are also in the cast. It's a family at the centre of the chaos, and the 1982 setting puts it right in the era of those Amblin-style suburban adventures it nods to.
