Alt-punk band The Empty Page, a fiercely independent DIY act, perform at Heartbreakers Bar.
The Empty Page play Heartbreakers Bar in Southampton on Saturday 17 October. They're an alt-punk outfit, and they've built their whole thing around staying fiercely independent — they've put out two albums on their own DIY label, so they're calling the shots on how their music gets out there.
That DIY streak hasn't kept them under the radar. They've picked up airplay from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1 and 6Music, with Steve Lamacq, Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson all giving them spins. Robinson was particularly vocal about their single 'He's Very Good At Swimming', which he called 'immensely powerful' — a good place to start if you're not yet familiar with how they sound.
If you've never heard them, that single gives you a fair idea of the ground they cover: alt-punk with a bit of a punch to it, and a penchant for titles that stick. Between the two albums they've released on their own label, there's plenty of material to draw from for a single night, so you'll get a proper look at what they've been working on.
