The Dog Stars

The Dog Stars screened at Showcase Southampton on Thursday 10 September. It's a Ridley Scott film, and the story is set after a pandemic has ravaged the world's population. It follows a man living a lonely existence in a Colorado airplane hangar with his dog and a dour gunman, so it's a small, quiet kind of survival story rather than a big action piece.

The cast is a heavy one, with Jacob Elordi in the lead, supported by Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce and Allison Janney. It's a bit of a gathering of names you don't usually see in the same room, and seeing them all together on screen is part of the draw. The film runs 1 hour 59 minutes, so it's just under two hours in the cinema.

It's rated 15A, which means it's suitable for 15s and over, though under-15s can go in with an adult. If you're planning a trip to Showcase Southampton, it's worth keeping that in mind if you're bringing anyone younger along.
