Film screening of The Christophers, directed by Steven Soderbergh, starring Michaela Coel and Ian McKellen, at Harbour Lights Picturehouse.
The Christophers is screening at Harbour Lights Picturehouse on Sunday 28 June, with the session starting at 13:15. It's a new film from Steven Soderbergh, and the cast is a bit of a draw on its own: Michaela Coel and Ian McKellen take the lead, with Jessica Gunning and James Corden also in the mix.
The story centres on Julian Sklar, played by McKellen, an artist from the London scene of the sixties who's spent years in self-imposed isolation. His two estranged children hire Lori, played by Coel, a young painter and forger, to pose as his future assistant. The real aim is to get close to a series of unfinished paintings Julian has kept buried in his studio, a deceptive play to secure an inheritance for them. It's a setup that puts a fake relationship at the heart of it, with the paintings as the prize.
