Queen at Sea

Harbour Lights Picturehouse is screening Queen at Sea on Tuesday 8 September, with the film starting at 17:20. It's a drama and thriller directed by Lance Hammer, and the cast is a strong one: Juliette Binoche, Tom Courtenay, and Anna Calder-Marshall. The film carries a 12A certificate, so it's fine for families as long as the younger ones are accompanied.

As for what it's about, Queen at Sea follows a woman whose dementia erodes her ability to communicate her inner life. Around her, her husband and daughter struggle to act in her best interest, navigating love and the fragile boundaries between care, protection, and autonomy. It's the kind of story that stays with you long after the credits roll, and the screening is followed by a discussion and a coffee evening, so there's space to talk it through with other people rather than just heading home.

If you haven't been to Harbour Lights before, it's a two-screen Picturehouse cinema and bar in Ocean Village, overlooking the Southampton marina. They programme a real mix—everything from current blockbusters and family favourites to independent gems, cult classics, and world cinema—so it's a good spot for a regular cinema-going habit. The venue has both indoor and outdoor seating, and there's a bar and café for before or after the film, which is where that coffee evening comes in.

Practical details: the screening is on Tuesday 8 September at 17:20 at Harbour Lights Picturehouse, Ocean Village, Southampton, SO14 3TL. The cinema opens half an hour before the first screening of the day, so if you're arriving early, you've got plenty of time to grab a drink and settle in before the film starts.
