Practical Magic 2

Practical Magic 2 opened at Showcase Cinema De Lux on Tuesday 22 September, and it's staying in the schedule for the foreseeable. It's a sequel that picks up twenty-five years after the original, so the gap between the two is a good chunk of the story itself.

The plot centres on the Owens family's magical origins, and it kicks off when Sally's daughter uncovers hidden secrets and starts developing dark abilities. That discovery sparks a new crisis, and the family ends up in a multi-generational struggle to break a centuries-old curse. It's the kind of thing that forces the Owens women to unite once more, and the whole thing leans on the family history that the first film set up.

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock both return as Sally and Gillian, and Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are back as their aunts, so the main cast from the original is largely intact. It's a reunion of the same faces from the first one, rather than a complete handover to a new generation.

Showings are on throughout the week at Showcase, which is on Level 4 of the West Quay Shopping Centre. On Fridays, it's 10:50, 13:45, 16:40, 18:40, and 19:40; Saturdays are 10:45, 13:45, 16:50, and 19:45; Sundays are 10:15, 13:10, 16:05, 19:00, and 21:50; Mondays are 10:30, 13:25, 16:20, 19:20, and 21:50; and Tuesday through Thursday it's 10:40, 13:30, 16:20, and 19:30. Standard tickets are £8.90 to £11.40, with OAP and NUS at £7.95 to £8.95, under 15s £7.45 to £7.95, and military £7.50 with valid ID. Gallery seats are £16.40, and there's a family ticket for £30.
