Obsession

Obsession opens at Showcase Cinema de Lux in Southampton on Sunday 28 June, with the first screening starting at 21:45. It's a late one — the film runs until 03:07, so you'll be walking out well into the early hours of Monday morning. If that's a bit too deep into the night, there are more sessions on the 29th, 30th, 1st and 2nd of July, so you can catch it a bit earlier in the week.

It's a horror film, and the story is a classic 'be careful what you wish for' setup. Bear works in a record shop and has a crush on his childhood friend, Nikki, who doesn't feel the same way. He comes across a mysterious object that promises to grant any wish, and he uses it to make Nikki fall in love with him. That's where it goes wrong: messing with the heart has its consequences, and Nikki ends up haunted by a violent, monstrous obsession. The filmmakers describe it as an unsettling and visceral look at the cost of getting exactly what you wanted.

If you're into horror, it's a good one to see on the big screen. The cinema is the Showcase Cinema de Lux in the Westquay Shopping Centre (SO15 1QF), so it's right in the middle of town.
