Screening of the National Theatre Live production of Christopher Hampton's adaptation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's classic novel, directed by Marianne Elliott.
National Theatre Live: Les Liaisons Dangereuses comes to Harbour Lights Picturehouse on Wednesday 16 September, as part of a run that starts on Thursday 17 September and continues through to Wednesday 11 November. It's a filmed stage production from the National Theatre, so you're seeing the play as it was performed live in London, rather than a cinema movie.
The play is Christopher Hampton's adaptation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's classic novel, set among the glittering salons of the super-rich. The story follows the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, two aristocrats who turn seduction into a strategy and weaponise desire, until their alliance collapses into rivalry and threatens to destroy everyone around them. It's a story of power and manipulation, and the National Theatre production brings it to the screen.
Two big names lead the cast. Lesley Manville, who won both an Olivier and a Tony Award and was in Phantom Thread, plays the Marquise de Merteuil, and Aidan Turner, known for Rivals, takes on the role of the Vicomte de Valmont. The production is directed by BAFTA winner Marianne Elliott, who also helmed Angels in America.

Practical details: the screening runs for 180 minutes, so it's a long one, and it carries a 15 certificate. It's showing at Harbour Lights Picturehouse in Southampton from Thursday 17 September through to Wednesday 11 November, so you've got plenty of dates to choose from if the 16th doesn't work for you.
