Live hip-hop performance by the legendary artist KRS-One as part of his My Philosophy European Tour.
KRS-One plays Engine Rooms on Friday 18 September, his only Southampton date of the year. He's touring My Philosophy, the title taken from his 1988 album, and the show is part of his My Philosophy European Tour.
If you've never come across him, KRS-One is a hip-hop icon who's spent decades at the front of the scene. He's known as much for the teaching side of things as the music, and My Philosophy is one of the records that carries that through — it's a conscious, lyric-heavy album that helped set the tone for the golden era of hip-hop. The tour takes that title and runs with it, bringing the material across Europe, with this Southampton stop being one of the dates.
It's a proper hip-hop night, so expect the focus to be on the MC and the mic. He's touring the My Philosophy record, and that's what's guiding the set, so you'll hear the material from that era alongside the newer stuff he's been working on. It's a long career, and the set pulls from different points along it.
