Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is screening at Showcase Cinema de Lux in Southampton on Wednesday 30 September. It's the fifth film in the series, based on the book that's widely considered Rowling's most complex and uneven, and the one that gave the whole franchise its toughest challenge to get right on screen.

It arrived without a big-name director at the helm, but it did introduce Imelda Staunton as the latest Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher — a role that would make her a fixture of the series from that point on. Critics at the time faulted the movie for leaning too heavily on exposition at the expense of action, so it's one of the more dialogue-heavy entries in the run. If you've seen it before, you'll remember it's less about the duels and more about the politics and the tension building up inside Hogwarts.

It's a good one to catch on the big screen if you're working your way through the films again, especially since it's the one that really starts to shift the tone of the whole story. The screening is at Showcase Cinema de Lux in Southampton on Wednesday 30 September.
