Exhibition On Screen: David Hockney at the Royal Academy of Arts

Harbour Lights Picturehouse is screening Exhibition On Screen: David Hockney on Thursday 9 July, bringing a cinematic look at one of Britain's most recognisable artists to Ocean Village. It's part of the Exhibition On Screen series, which puts major gallery shows on the big screen for those who can't make it to the original venue.

This one focuses on David Hockney, who's widely seen as Britain's most popular artist and a global sensation. His exhibitions in London, New York, Paris and beyond have drawn millions of visitors from all over the world, and even as he enters his ninth decade, he's shown no sign of slowing down or losing the boldness his work is known for.

The film itself centres on the two blockbuster exhibitions he held at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, one in 2012 and another in 2016. Director Phil Grabsky got privileged access to the artist, and the film features intimate, in-depth interviews with Hockney himself. It's built as a cinematic celebration of a 21st-century master of creativity, so you'll see the work and hear from the man behind it.
