Effi o Blaenau

Effi o Blaenau screens at Harbour Lights Picturehouse on Tuesday 28 July, starting at 20:40. It's a dramedy directed by Marc Evans, and it's a big-screen adaptation of Gary Owen's one-woman play Iphigenia in Splott.

The story follows Effi, a young woman in rural Wales whose life mostly revolves around drinking vodka with her mates and eating instant noodles to cure the hangovers, until a night out changes everything. It's a character study that doubles as a commentary on the socio-economic issues facing rural communities, and it stars up-and-coming talent Leisa Gwenllian in the title role.

Harbour Lights is a two-screen cinema and bar in Ocean Village, overlooking the harbour. It has a café-bar with indoor and outdoor seating, and it runs a Kids' Club and Toddler Time, so it's a spot that works for families as well as a night out. The film starts at 20:40, so it's a late one—plenty of time to grab a drink beforehand if you're heading down to the water.
