Disclosure Day

Disclosure Day is showing at Showcase Cinema de Lux Southampton on Tuesday 7 July. It's Steven Spielberg's return to sci-fi, and it's a long one — 2 hours and 25 minutes, rated 12A.

The story follows Margaret Fairchild, a Kansas City meteorologist whose life gets turned upside down when she starts broadcasting anomalous weather reports and unintelligible clicking sounds live on air. As the world edges closer to the titular 'Disclosure Day', a whistleblower named Daniel Kellner risks everything to expose a decades-long government and corporate cover-up about non-human intelligence, with the Wardex corporation tightening its grip on extraterrestrial artefacts. It's described as a blend of tense neo-noir mystery and awe-inspiring spectacle, looking at the psychological and societal ripples of a reality where humanity is no longer alone.

There's a big cast assembled for it: Josh O'Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson, Colin Firth, Elizabeth Marvel, Wyatt Russell and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. With Spielberg back in the sci-fi seat, it's a bit of a moment for the genre, and the 12A rating means it's one you can take the younger ones to if they're old enough. It's a long sit, so keep that in mind if you're planning your evening around it.
