A stop-motion animated adaptation of Neil Gaiman's children's novel, Coraline, showing at the Showcase Southampton Cinema de Luxe.
Coraline is playing at Showcase Southampton from 2 October to 27 October, a nearly month-long run that gives you plenty of room to fit it in. It's the stop-motion animated adaptation of Neil Gaiman's children's novel, and if you've read the book, you'll recognise the story: Coraline's family moves into the large, dusty Pink Mansions, and she quickly grows bored with her hardworking parents. That changes when she finds a secret door that leads her into an alternate version of her own home.
The film is described as a lush, visually imaginative and freshly entertaining piece of stop-motion, and it's exactly that kind of thing that works better on a big screen than at home. Every frame is hand-crafted, so seeing it in a cinema does the animation justice in a way a laptop screen just can't.

It's showing at Showcase Southampton Cinema de Luxe, inside the Westquay shopping centre. That's the UK's first picturehouse to have laser projection and Dolby Atmos in every screen, so the sound and picture are as sharp as they get. The seats are fully customisable electric recliners, too, so you can lean back and settle in for the full run. With the screenings going on from 2 October right through to 27 October, you've got nearly four weeks to pick a date that works for you.
