Movement and music sessions for under-fives with dancing, singing and instruments, run by the Minstead Trust.
Boogie in the Barn returns to Hanger Farm Arts Centre this August, with sessions on Thursday 6, Thursday 20, and Thursday 27 August, all starting at 10:00. It's a movement and music series for toddlers, babies and children under five, and it's run by the Minstead Trust, the learning disability charity that looks after the centre.
The sessions mix nursery rhymes, popular songs and world music with hands-on props like instruments, ribbons, play parachutes and bubbles. They're structured to get young children clapping, tapping, swaying and twirling, and they're designed to support early physical coordination, social confidence and creative expression. Parents and carers don't just watch from the sidelines — they attend and participate alongside their little ones, so it's something you do together rather than a drop-off. The sessions run on select Thursday mornings during the August summer holidays, and advance booking is recommended.
There's a bit of history to the venue too. Hanger Farm Arts Centre is a converted 18th-century timber barn in West Totton, and it doubles as an exhibition, wedding and meeting space. It's run by the Minstead Trust, the same charity behind the sessions, so the whole thing stays within the same family. You'll find it on Aikman Lane in West Totton, Southampton, SO40 8FT.
