Heavy metal singer Blaze Bayley performs a career-spanning set of solo material, metal anthems and classic Iron Maiden tracks at Papillon.
Blaze Bayley plays Papillon on Friday 16 October, with the show starting at 20:30. He's a singer and songwriter with a long history in British heavy metal, and the set he's bringing to Southampton pulls from several different chapters of his career.
Bayley fronted Wolfsbane from 1984, and in 1994 he took over as lead vocalist for Iron Maiden, recording two albums with them before Bruce Dickinson returned. He's spent the years since then on his own, releasing Silicon Messiah in 2000, Tenth Dimension in 2003, Blood And Belief in 2005, and Infinite Entanglement in 2016. He's known for a booming voice and a passionate stage presence, and he's toured widely, including dates alongside Paul Di'Anno.
The set at Papillon is built around that career span: solo material, metal anthems, and the Iron Maiden tracks from the nineties. It's a good way to hear his work across the decades in one go, rather than just one era. The venue is the restored church space at Papillon, 61 Commercial Road, SO15 1GG.
