Extended cut of the horror sci-fi film Backrooms with previously unseen footage at Showcase Cinema de Lux.
Backrooms: Everything Must Go is coming to Showcase Cinema de Lux on Monday 13 July, and it's not just a re-run. This is an extended cut of Backrooms, and the main draw is the previously unseen footage they've woven in. If you've already seen the original, that's the part that makes this one worth another trip.
For those who haven't caught it yet, the Backrooms universe is built on that particular kind of liminal horror — empty offices, yellowed wallpaper, and the feeling that you're being followed through a space that shouldn't exist. This version, Everything Must Go, takes the core of that and stretches it out, adding in the scenes that didn't make the first cut. It's the same world, just a bit more of it on screen.
Seeing it in a cinema rather than on a laptop changes the experience, too. The scale of the empty spaces works better when they fill the whole wall, and the sound carries a bit more weight when it's coming through a proper system. It's the kind of thing that's easier to get lost in when you're sitting in the dark with a room full of other people.
