Hampshire's Best Farm Shops for a Weekend Foodie Getaway

Following the recent celebrations around Hampshire Fare, taking a short drive out from Southampton to explore our nearby farm shops makes for a great weekend plan. Whether you want to gather fresh local ingredients for a home-cooked meal or just sit down for a relaxed bite to eat in a countryside setting, there are several independent spots within easy reach of the city.

Over in Wickham, Westlands Farm Shop on Pricketts Hill has been running for over two decades. It stocks home-grown fruit and vegetables alongside free-range meat from its own farm butchery. If you head towards Alresford, West Lea Farm Shop sits right next to its own watercress beds along the B3047. Run by owner Rachel Peppiatt, over 90% of what they sell is sourced from nearby producers. Alongside their fresh watercress, they stock local trout, handmade cakes, pastries, and regional cheeses. They are open Monday to Saturday from 9:00am to 4:30pm (closed Sundays), making it a worthwhile stop if you are heading out on a Saturday drive.

Closer to home in Chandler's Ford, Bay Leaves Larder on Hiltingbury Road combines a delicatessen and coffee shop. Owner Sarah Guilder has been running the business for 18 years, stocking artisan sourdough, local honey, and Hampshire-produced wines and spirits. It operates Monday to Saturday from 8:30am to 3:30pm, offering sit-down options like light lunches, homemade cakes, and an Afternoon Tea in a Box for £30.00 for two.

Further east near Emsworth, Southbourne Farm Shop & Bakehouse has been operating since 1982. Alongside fresh field-picked produce and a zero-waste refill station, they feature an on-site bakery producing handmade loaves such as Southbourne Wild Sourdough and Five Seed Sourdough. You can also stop by their car-park coffee trailer, "Our Little Place", for hot drinks and paninis six days a week. The main shop is open Monday to Saturday from 7:00am to 5:30pm and Sundays from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Finally, for meat and fish specialists, Botley’s Considerate Carnivore at Locks Heath Shopping Village focuses on ethically sourced, grass-fed British meats, while Anyfish in Bishops Waltham offers fresh seasonal fish, smoked Hampshire trout, and deli products.
