Southampton has added a new name to its cruise calendar: Disney Dream. On 10 January 2024, it became the first Disney Cruise Line ship to homeport here, ahead of the company’s first dedicated Southampton season, which began in May 2024. The ship has since offered European sailings from the port, putting Disney’s family-focused cruise experience within easy reach of local passengers.

At 340 metres long and weighing 129,690 gross tonnes, Disney Dream can carry around 4,000 passengers and approximately 1,450 crew members. Its black hull, red funnels and large Disney branding make it easy to recognise alongside Southampton’s other cruise ships. The programme has included three- to seven-night trips to Scandinavia, Northern Europe, the Norwegian Fjords, Spain, the Mediterranean and the British Isles, as well as longer repositioning voyages. Norwegian Fjords routes have included Haugesund, Olden, Ålesund and Stavanger, while other itineraries have called at places such as Rotterdam, Bergen, Bilbao and Zeebrugge.
For anyone looking at a Southampton departure, the booking process is much like choosing any other cruise: compare the itinerary, sailing length, cabin type and what is included in the fare before committing. Disney Dream has inside rooms, ocean-view cabins, balcony accommodation and concierge suites. Inside cabins can sleep up to four and include a virtual porthole, while many rooms have split bathrooms, which can be useful when a family is getting ready at the same time. Cabins are cleaned twice daily and room service is included. Remember to budget for extras such as gratuities, which are charged per person, per day, and Wi-Fi, listed at approximately £136 per device for a four-night stay. Prices vary by sailing; one four-night Spain cruise from Southampton cost £1,412.90 per person in August 2024.
Once on board, the main appeal is the range of activities for different ages. Children and teenagers have access to six age-specific clubs and spaces, while adults can use the Senses Spa, Fitness Centre, Quiet Cove and adult dining venues. The ship’s three main restaurants are Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden and Royal Palace. Guests rotate between them with the same serving team. Palo offers Italian food for approximately £20 per person, and Remy serves French cuisine for approximately £75 per person.
Entertainment is built into the cruise fare. The Walt Disney Theatre stages productions including Disney’s Believe, The Golden Mickeys: A Timeless Tribute and Beauty and the Beast. Shows usually run twice each evening, with timings arranged around dinner, and the Disney Cruise Navigator App provides the latest schedule. The theatre is on Deck 3 Forward and seats up to 800 people, so arriving early can help with popular performances.
For families wanting something more active, AquaDuck is the ship’s headline attraction. This 233-metre water coaster sits on Deck 12, uses two-person rafts and includes transparent sections over the side of the ship. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall, while solo riders must be at least 54 inches. Younger children can use Mickey’s Slide, subject to its height range, or Mr Ray’s Slide in Nemo’s Reef for children aged four and under. There is also a nine-hole mini-golf course, a Sports Deck, three pools and sports simulators.
The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique adds another bookable experience for children aged three to 12. Fairy Godmothers in Training offer princess, knight, pirate and character makeovers, with packages ranging from approximately £99 to £450 after converting the listed prices to pounds. Reservations can be made online before sailing or on board if space remains. First-time Disney cruisers can book from 75 days before departure, while eligible Castaway Club members and concierge guests receive earlier booking windows. On Disney Dream, the boutique is on Deck 5 Midship, and it becomes pirate-themed on Pirate Night.
Disney Dream’s most recent drydock refit ran from 16 September to 19 October 2024 in Brest. It added Donald’s Cantina, a new Dream Tower Suite inside the funnel and a Hercules-themed Concierge Lounge, while several youth areas were moved or refreshed. As of Monday 10 August 2026, the ship is scheduled to return to Southampton at 08:00, completing an eight-day round trip that departed on 3 August and visited Haugesund, Olden, Ålesund and Stavanger. Disney Wish is also scheduled to make its European debut in 2027, with Southampton departures planned from July to September.
